Plaza de los Héroes

The Heroes Square is one of the most important places in Budapest, Hungary. It is located at one end of Andrássy Avenue (with which itforms part of the whole World Heritage Site), near the city park.


It is surrounded by two major buildings, the Museum of Fine Arts on the left and thePalace of Art (or museum art exhibitions) on the right. On the other side lies theAndrassy Avenue, with two buildings facing the square, one residential and the other thepresent embassy in Serbia.

In the center of the square is the Millennium Memorial (also known as Millennium Monument or Monument Millennium), a set of special relevance in Budapest, withstatues of the leaders of the seven Magyar tribes that founded in the ninth centuryHungary and other personalities Hungarian history.

Curiosity:

On June 16, 1989, a crowd of 250,000 people gathered in the square to celebrate the historic burial of Imre Nagy, executed in June 1958.

It is also a station on the metro line M1 Budapest.
